Comments:
Specimen of Scutellaria ovata Hill ssp. ovata was collected at Lavender Mountain on the Berry College Campus and send to NY Herbarium to be compared with the type specimens NY 415713, Scutellaria versicolor Nutt. var., collected by Alvin W. Chapman (1809-1899) in Rome, Floyd County, Georgia.

Description:
Scutellaria versicolor Nutt. "Softly pubescent; steam stout, branched above; leaves large, long-petioled, all broadly cordate, rugose and reticulate; the floral ones ovate, sessile; racemes terminal and axillary, many-flowered, viscid; calyx hairy; lateral lobes of the corolla conspicuous. (S. cordifolia Muhl. ) - Dry open woods in the upper districts. Jul. - Sept. - Stem 61 cm - 91 cm, (2 - 3 feet), high. Leaves 5 cm - 10 cm, (2 - 4 inch), long. Racemes 7.6 cm - 15 cm (3 - 6 inch) long. Corolla 13 mm - 17 mm, (6 - 8 line) long, blue and white" - A. W. Chapman, 1884.
