Henry William Ravenel (1814-1887), a botanist, plantaion owner, and author of “The Fungi Caroliniani Exsccati” and “Fungi Americani Exsiccati”, the first published works on American fungi botanized in Floyd County, Georgia in 1869, 1871, and 1872 and discovered Cryphaea ravenelii Aus., Ravenel’s Cryphaea Moss.
